5 O’Clock Shadow – Grand Teton Brewing – #ThirstyThursday

Loyal readers know that we are fans of Grand Teton Brewing Company and the beers they make.  As part of their seasonal released GTBC released 5 O’Clock Shadow Double Black Lager.  It is brewed in the Schwarzbier (black beer) style and is full of rich toasted malt flavor.  I was telling Chuck of GTBC that it had many flavors in common with Big Eddie Russian Imperial Stout (Leinenkugel’s).

The roasted malts give this beer a flavor, as I said above, that is very common with stouts and a few porters but it also has the characteristics of lagers.  It has a rich almost black color that, if held up to light, will remain dark.  The ABV weights in at 7.6% so be careful or you will be cabbing it home.  The interesting part of this brew is the 38 IBUs which is pretty high without being overly hoppy.  Dark beer lovers will go gaga over this beer.  Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.  And if you are ever in Victor, Idaho; tell them The Next Bar Stool sent you.
