Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout – Anderson Valley Brewing – #ThirstyThursday

A few months ago we reviewed Anderson Valley’s Winter Solstice.  We loved it (had it in bottles and on tap, preferred the tap a little more) and in the review we mentioned that they had some brews that we didn’t care for (because of our tastebuds, not because of the beer) and after some research it was the Summer Solstice and the Brother David’s.  I am not the biggest fan of Belgian beers and not big on lighter beers either.  But I know that folks who drink those types of beers love both.  But I digress.  With St. Patrick’s Day just a couple days away, we would like to suggest and American beer to enjoy in place of Guiness (not that we have anything against Guiness).

The other day I had an opportunity to enjoy a Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout from the folks over at Anderson Valley Brewing.  It has a delicious chocolate flavor with just a hint of caramel and coffee mixed in.  Low on hops at 13 IBUs but just enough to keep it from having a heavy malty flavor.  The balanced flavor mixed with a comfortable 5.7% ABV, this is a beer that would be perfect for the beginning of March Madness as you could drink it at a moderate pace and not end up blitzed out of your mind.  This is another great beer from the folks at Anderson Valley.
