Greensky Bluegrass – #MusicMonday

Kalamazoo, Michigan is home to only 2 things that I know: Bell’s Beer and Greensky Bluegrass. Both are worth your attention.

I stumbled upon the band when I made a trip to my local record store and was browsing the used music section.  In the midst of it were two CDs from Greensky Bluegrass (Live at Bell’s and Tuesday Letter).  At $8 for the pair, I couldn’t resist. For a long time I have had a soft spot for bluegrass.  For those of you that pay attention you will notice that I get a few bluegrass album reviews in every year.  These is something amazing about good bluegrass and I have had the opportunity to hear some live in the Appalachians.

If promoted right, bluegrass very well could be the next big musical genre.  While Old Crow Medicine Show and friends have been around for a while and Flatt and Scruggs were around forever before that, there is a new generation of musicians learning just how complicated yet beautiful bluegrass can be.  The music becomes even more enjoyable when great harmonies are added.

Both CDs that I purchased showcase a band that takes their music seriously and still has a good time doing it.  They are definitely worth buying and if you don’t at least listen to it, you don’t know good music.  Check out a song below by two of the band members.
