As you have read earlier, my girlfriend and I take a trip to Phoenix every year so I can get some baseball and she can get some sun and shopping. We both like to check out restaurants, not because we are foodies, but because we enjoy finding gems in each place we visit.

While we were in Phoenix this year, we decided to check out Matt’s Big Breakfast. I ordered a waffle with bacon (as you can see in the featured image) and breakfast potatoes (as you can see after the jump).

As you can see, I washed it down with a delicious strawberry honey lemonade. Matt’s does this great thing of using local honey to sweeten the lemonade and made it much more enjoyable because you had the tart of the lemonade and the sweetness of the honey which is very different from a sugary sweetness of refined sugar.

My girlfriend decided to try the oatmeal because she wasn’t terribly hungry and did not want to go through the gluten battle.

Adding raisins, milk and a little sugar she enjoyed this hearty bowl but was not able to finish it as it is much bigger than it looks.

Back to my meal. This was probably the best waffle I have ever had. The syrup was delicious and was the perfect level of sweetness. The bacon was crispy (most people like that, I like mine softer) and had a delicious pepper coating. The potatoes were cooked just right and had a great rosemary seasoning.

Be sure to bring your appetite. I ate 1 waffle, 2 strips of bacon and a side of potatoes and I waddled out. The food is delicious and affordable. And the great thing is that it is located next to the Farmer’s Market in Phoenix so you can walk the meal off and shop for food on a full stomach. Plan ahead, we had a 45 minute wait for a table.
