It is only appropriate that on my girlfriend’s birthday I review a beer that she purchased for me.

As a thank you for some things I had done, she bought me a couple of 22oz beers. The other night I decided to finally crack into one of them. I chose the Descender IPA from GoodLife Brewing. GoodLife is a little brewery out of Bend, Oregon. If, for some reason, you are not familiar with the beers coming out of the Northwest United States, then you need to get your hands on some fast.

GoodLife follows a great Northwest tradition of hoppy beers in their Descender. This is a beer that packed a much bigger punch than I was expecting. And I was expecting a hoppy beer. At 7% ABV this will also get your head a little lighter. I started to notice it not long into the bottle and it helped me realize that I needed to eat more food. Following the 7% is 70 IBUs. This is a beer that will put hair on your chest. AND I LOVED IT! If you are a hop head, this is definitely worth taking a chance on. The color was an amber-orange with a yellow head.

The beer had obvious aroma of citrus and the flavor was a nice sweet front with a deliciously bitter back end. The sweetness comes from a grapefruit like flavor that quickly switches to a bitterness one would associate with both grapefruit and hops.

This is a beer we would happily drink again.
