Some Saturdays and/or Sundays you just don’t want to go through the hassle of making a big breakfast but you really want to eat something significant. Maybe you are going/have gone biking or hiking. Perhaps you had a night with one too many drinks. Whatever the reason, some times it is just nice go get a good breakfast and to feel full when you are done. A while back we talked about Scratch in Victor, Idaho. This week we head to the other sided of Idaho to Boise and stop in at Big City Coffee.

A few weeks ago my girlfriend and I went there for brunch as we had been busy all morning. It is a place I have eaten at a few times before and a place I had frequently had coffee and baked goods. I admit, it has always been more at the back of my mind as a place for food, but I seem to forget about it when I am hungry. That day it moved to the front of my mind and I am glad it did. I ate a delicious meal and was full enough I had to waddle out.

I had the Buckaroo.

An enormous plate of eggs (there had to be at least a dozen eggs), bacon, turkey, whole grain toast, watermelon, strawberries, cherries, and grapes. This was a great, but huge, breakfast with bacon being the only thing that could be viewed as unhealthy. The eggs were steamed, the fruit was fresh, the toast was just crispy and everything was tasty.

My girlfriend had the oatmeal.

She is something of an oatmeal connoisseur. She really like the oatmeal at Big City especially because the texture was rich and it was not a mushy mess like so many other restaurants make. It came with some strawberries and watermelon which was a nice touch.

We shared some breakfast potatoes.

We ended up bringing most of these home and reheating them in the toaster oven the next morning. They were delicious with a slightly crispy outside and a perfectly cooked inside. The seasoning was just right and they were not overly oily.

Big City is worth a trip if you are in Boise. Especially if you are heading off on the trails or if you just came off the trail. It also has a much shorter line than other places in town.
